Ĉi-tion ni scias

Ni estas la tero, pere de la plantoj kaj bestoj kiuj nin nutras. Ni estas la pluvoj kaj la oceanoj kiuj trafluas niajn vejnojn.

Ni estas la spiro de la arbaroj de la lando, kaj la plantoj de la maro. Ni estas homaj bestoj, parencaj al ĉiuj aliaj vivestuloj

kiuj devenas de la unua ĉelo. Ni kunspertas kun ĉi-tiuj parencoj komunan historion, priskribita en niaj genoj.

Ni protoprenas komunan nuntempon, plena de necerteco. Ni partoprenas komunan estontecon, ankoraŭ ne rakontita.

Ni homoj estas nur unu el tridek milionoj da specioj kiuj teksas la mallarĝan tavolon de vivo kiu envolvas la mondon.

La stabileco de la komunumoj de vivantaj estaĵoj dependas de tiu diverseco. Ligita en tiu reto, ni estas interkonektitaj –

utiligantaj, purigantaj, dividantaj kaj restarigantaj la fundamentajn elementojn de vivo. Nia hejmo, planedo Tero, estas

limigita; la tuta vivo kunuzas ties rimedojn kaj la energion de la suno, kaj pro tio estas limigoj al kresko. Por la unua fojo,

ni atingas tiujn limojn. Kiam ni difektas la aeron, la akvon, la grundon kaj la variecon de vivo, ni ŝtelas de la senfina

estonto por servi al la efemera nuntempo.

Ĉi-tion ni kredas

Homoj iĝis tiom multnombraj kaj niaj iloj tiom potencaj tiel ke ni pelis parencajn estaĵojn al estingo, baris la grandajn

riverojn, disŝiris la antikvajn arbarojn, venenigis la grundon, pluvon kaj venton, kaj boris

truojn en la ĉielo. Nia scienco alportis doloron same kiel ĝojon; nia komforto estas pagita per la suferado de milionoj.

Ni lernas pro niaj eraroj, ni priploras niajn malaperantajn parencojn, kaj ni nuntempe kreas la novajn politikojn de

espero. Ni respektas kaj subtenas la absolutan bezonon por pura aero, akvo, kaj grundo. Ni konstatas ke la ekonomiaj

aktivecoj kiuj profitas la kelkulojn dum ili ŝrumpas la heridaĵon de la plimulto estas maljustaj. Kaj pro tio ke degenero de

la natura medio erozias biologian kapitalon por ĉiam, oni devas enkalkuli ĉiujn ekologiajn kaj socialajn kostojn en la

ekvacioj de evoluo. Ni estas unu etdaŭra generacio en la longa marŝo de tempo; la estonteco ne estas la nia por forviŝi.

Ĉi-tiel estu kiam scio estas limigita, ke ni memoros ĉiujn, kiuj promenos post ni, kaj ni eraros je la flanko de singardo.

Ĉi-tiun ni decidas

Ĉion, kion ni scias kaj kredas devas estiĝi la fundamento de nia vivmaniero.

Ĉeestanta kun ĉi-turnopunkto en nia rilato kun la Tero, ni laboros por evoluado:

De perforto al partnereco; de fragmenteco al konekteco; de malsekureco, al interdependeco

This we know

We are the earth, through the plants and animals that nourish us.
We are the rains and the oceans that flow through our veins.
We are the breath of the forests of the land, and the plants of the sea.
We are human animals, related to all other life as descendants of the firstborn cell.
We share with these kin a common history, written in our genes.
We share a common present, filled with uncertainty.
And we share a common future, as yet untold.
We humans are but one of thirty million species weaving the thin layer of life enveloping the world.
The stability of communities of living things depends upon this diversity.
Linked in that web, we are interconnected — using, cleansing, sharing and replenishing the fundamental elements of life.
Our home, planet Earth, is finite; all life shares its resources and the energy from the sun, and therefore has limits to growth.
For the first time, we have touched those limits.
When we compromise the air, the water, the soil and the variety of life, we steal from the endless future to serve the fleeting present.

This we believe

Humans have become so numerous and our tools so powerful that we have driven fellow creatures to extinction, dammed the great rivers, torn down ancient forests, poisoned the earth, rain and wind, and ripped holes in the sky.
Our science has brought pain as well as joy; our comfort is paid for by the suffering of millions.
We are learning from our mistakes, we are mourning our vanished kin, and we now build a new politics of hope.
We respect and uphold the absolute need for clean air, water and soil.
We see that economic activities that benefit the few while shrinking the inheritance of many are wrong.
And since environmental degradation erodes biological capital forever, full ecological and social cost must enter all equations of development.
We are one brief generation in the long march of time; the future is not ours to erase.
So where knowledge is limited, we will remember all those who will walk after us, and err on the side of caution.

This we resolve

All this that we know and believe must now become the foundation of the way we live.
At this turning point in our relationship with Earth, we work for an evolution: from dominance to partnership; from fragmentation to connection; from insecurity, to interdependence.
